When I wake is a super cute short prequel to the Alora Chronicles. Ashlee, a sixteen year old, has just suffered the loss of her mother and is going through some of her belongings when she finds out information about an alleged father. Feeling lost and alone, Ashlee seeks out an investigative agency to find the man she believes may be her father. But does she really want to know? What if he's not a good guy? In the meantime, Ashlee deals with a boy from school who seems just a little too pushy for her liking.This is not the first book I've read by this author, and it certainly did not disappoint. Now my only problem is, I'm gonna have to get the next book in order to find out more about Ashlee. When I wake is the perfect prequel to the Alora Chronicles. Can't wait to read the next (first) book in the series - Until I sleep.

I have received an advance copy of this book in return for my opinion. I really loved this, I couldn't put it down and I read it twice. Are you sure it's not for adults? I really like how strong Ashlee is, even when faced with the betrayal of her "friends", she chooses integrity. It seems like she would be a good role model that I would be happy to have my kids read more about. Eagerly looking forward to reading the next books.
I managed to get to read this as an advanced copy and this is my honest review. I really enjoyed this, it is well written with a strong storyline and the characters and their situations are very relatable to for a wide range of ages. The setting of the book is well researched and descriptive. I have enjoyed this book as much as I have other Authors such as Sarah Strohmeyer, Janet Evanovich etc in as much as they are different and hold your interest and leave you wanting to know what happens next. Most enjoyable book ...... waiting for the next one.........
I really loved reading this book. Lara Ann made the characters very believable. The teenagers acted so much like kids I grew up with that I felt like I was right back in school! I really started to like Ashlee as if she was one of my school friends, and I hope I can continue this series so I can find out how she deals with what life is about to hand her. She seems like a very level-headed intelligent girl and I can't wait for the next book.
I was given this book as an introduction to this author's work. I loved it. She was able to get accurately describe the emotions and actions of a teen with a single parent who loses her mom and struggles with normal issues. Now she's off on new adventures. I can hardly wait for the followup books.
This short story prequel is strictly romance. No magical points to it, nothing just romance. I love romance novels. I love anything romance. This prequel was not enough for me to want to read more about these characters. It just didnt give me the push I was hoping for. Although it was ok. It just was not for me.
Milly is the best friend. Ashlee is on the hunt to find her dad. Her mom died in a car accident. So she has noone. So she is on the hunt for her dad. Bentley is the player type who we find out some things about him. Which I did not really care for at all. By the end of the story when everything unravels she decides to rush into some things. It just seems like it went too fast. Not enough details. It was more juvenile than some prequels. This story just did not intrigue me enough to keep going.

... especially when so many people have given it five stars. But this story didn't do it for me. Nothing really happened except for the main character finding out about her father. There were too many passing-the-time moments where characters just bantered back and forth. I assume this is marketed as young adult, but the writing felt middle grade.
Note This story is unedited. Comma splices left and right, run-on sentences, and more. And a large chunk of the book is in fact the next book, which did grow a little more interesting, but again, no editing.
